" A Portrait of the Italian Song "
A jazz homage to Italian melody
Dante Loves Jazz is an international jazz ensemble that reimagines the rich tradition of Italian song through the language of jazz. With their project "The Portrait of the Italian Song", the group pays tribute to some of Italy’s most iconic and poetic voices – including Fabrizio De André, Roberto Murolo, Lucio Battisti, Mina, and Paolo Conte.
Blending the elegance of Italian melody with sophisticated jazz harmonies, the ensemble creates refined, emotionally charged arrangements that honour the originals while giving them new life on stage. The result is music that feels timeless yet freshly intimate – rooted in history, yet open to improvisation and nuance.
Led by vocalist Alice Claudia Lenaz, whose warm and expressive voice moves effortlessly between intimacy and theatricality, the group brings timeless melodies to life with elegance and emotional depth. Each arrangement is a tribute to the beauty of Italian song, from cinema and pop to folk and poetry – all infused with jazz harmony and modern phrasing.
Line-up:
Alice Claudia Lenaz – vocals
Michel Bisceglia – piano
Gabriele di Franco – guitar
Werner Lauscher – double bass
Lieven Venken – drums
With members from Belgium, Italy, and beyond, Dante Loves Jazz bridges cultures and genres. Their performances – on festival stages, in theatres, and intimate venues – celebrate the universal language of music with grace and authenticity.
