Ania Paz creates music with an unmistakable sense of movement. Rooted in jazz and shaped by Afro-Latin American rhythms, her compositions combine harmonic colour, rhythmic energy and the freedom of improvisation.
After an international career spanning Latin America and the United States, the pianist and composer found a new musical home in Berlin. There, the Ania Paz Trio has developed into a distinctive contemporary jazz ensemble built around interaction, curiosity and an infectious sense of groove.
With Carmelo Leotta on bass and Christoph Hillmann on drums, Paz moves effortlessly between carefully constructed compositions and spontaneous musical dialogue. The result is music that can be intricate and adventurous, yet remains direct, warm and deeply connected to its audience.

At the heart of the Ania Paz Trio is interaction.
Ania Paz's compositions provide the framework, but the music comes fully alive through the individual voices of the three musicians. Bassist Carmelo Leotta brings a broad musical vocabulary ranging from jazz and blues to electronic and world music, while drummer Christoph Hillmann moves naturally between jazz traditions, world music and the avant-garde.
Together they create a sound that is rhythmically alive, harmonically rich and constantly open to the unexpected.

Ania Paz's music has been shaped by a life lived between cultures.
Her compositions bring together the rhythmic vitality of Latin America, the openness of jazz and a highly personal harmonic language. Rather than treating these influences as separate worlds, Paz allows them to meet naturally — creating music in which cultural dialogue becomes part of the composition itself.
Rhythm is central, but never predictable. Written structures make room for improvisation, subtle details can suddenly open into powerful grooves, and each musician is given the freedom to reshape the music in the moment.
For Paz, jazz is more than a musical language. It is a meeting place — a way of connecting different experiences, traditions and people.
